Taiwanese photographer wins national award

Taiwan's National Cultural Award has been awarded to a photographer. Congratulations to Chang Chao-tang of Tainan!

Chang, 68, serves on the faculty of the Tainan National University of the Arts. He has been making documentary images for over 40 years. According to a report by June Tsai, Chang credited Taiwanese pioneers in documentary photography Chang Tsai and Cheng Sang-hsi for his inspiration. He said the award offers encouragement to all photographers in Taiwan and encouraged the government to establish a museum of photography. 'Passion for life and the land,' Chang said, 'as recorded in the works of many photographers, famous or unknown, continues to move people today.'
