Lifting the Light

A two-story tall commemorative lantern anticipates the 2009 World Games in Taiwan's southern port city Kaohsiung. The figure wears the traditional clothing of Taiwan's native Austronesian islanders. The posture echoes that of the Goddess of Democracy erected by Chinese students in Beijing during the 1989 Tiananmen Square democracy rallies.
